The Nucleon Formula,

a suggested methodology to calculate the efficiency of your IT projects.

What is the Nucleon Formula?

Nucleon is a formula, assessment, and unit of power that measures the performance of an IT development organization.

The Nucleon formula calculates estimated performance implications backed by years of best practices and empirical studies. Nucleon provides a tangible measure to compare, improve and track performance for development teams. The unit of power and KPI is called Nucleon. It’s based on an assessment of prioritized areas for suggested improvements and the performance implications of three prioritized areas:
People, Organization and Complexity.

The People Factor

We assess the performance level of the individuals on a team and a set of performance implications. Within the realm of IT specialists there is at least a 20-fold difference between the superior and the mediocre.

The Factor of Organization

We add or subtract for how the department is organized. The factor can be broken down in to four universal areas;
Team Size, Bureaucracy, Decision-maker Proximity and Optimal People Allocation

The Factor of Complexity

We subtract for how complex the environment is. Complexity is the product of four main environmentally-driven performance effects in your IT department;
Culture, Architecture, Methodology and Legacy.

There´s a better way to measure IT performance

In Nucleon, Jeppe Hedaa introduces the first formula to measure the factors that hold back an organization’s IT performance, along with the most impactful areas for improvement.

Words from COO Jim Ditmore – our first test case at Danske Bank

I was first surprised, because the formula/analysis reveals at the team level but also the individual and the organiational level. In fact, it is not just a formula – that is the summary – it is a complex family of measurements and analyzes that are compared against best practices in a structured way to reveal all of the major, minor and micro fractures and defects in your IT organizational crystal.
